Misha and I are really excited to be going to the ARI conference April 26-30th in New Jersey to hear the latest and greatest information from some of the leading researchers. We signed up to go well before we found out about our Lyme issue, but are still eager since Autism is near and dear to our hearts. I was checking out the website this evening, looking at the presenters and lectures offered at the conference, and found a free seminar preview, “Autism as a Multisystem, Whole-Body Disorder”, presented by Martha Herbert, M.D., Ph.D.’s about environmental factors. It is a 78 minute video and can be found at:
Autism is a whole body, whole system condition: seizures, cognitive deficits, sensorimotor abnormalities, disordered sleep, immune impairments, GI issues, food allergies, systemic metabolic disturbances and more. She speaks about many research studies and the genetic-environmental links with Autism. Some of the possible environmental contributors to Autism being studied: pesticides, heavy metals, solvents, polychlorinatedbiphenyls (PCBs), vaccines, flame retardants, antimicrobial ingredients in hand soap, vitamin D deficiency, antibiotic overexposure, essential fatty acid deficiency, greater genetic need combined with relative dietary deficiency of certain nutrients (folic acid, B12, magnesium, valproic acid, thalidomide, rubella and other infections during pregnancy, and in vitro fertilization.
Watch the video when you have time. Great information!
