I am really learning so much every day, and appreciate when people offer resources, ideas, and research that I never knew about. I feel so fortunate to have so many people on our side, looking out for Jackson and our family. I just found out about this doctor, Dr. Aditi Shankardass, and urge you to watch this 7 minute video. Though we know we’re dealing with Lyme and Co Infections, I’ve always thought Jackson may be suffering from mini seizures. At times, he’ll grab and close his eyes shut, as if in pain or waiting for something to pass. Supposedly, Dr. Aditi Shankardass splits her time between Harvard, LA and India. Misha and I are ready to hop on a plane with Jackson to have an appointment with her.
The other thing that perplexes me is how Jackson (and all Autistic kids) was diagnosed. One person observed him playing for a total of 45 minutes. Never once was there a brain scan, any bloodwork, nada. We then took him to a pediatric neurologist who observed him a total of 2 minutes, and wrote on his prescription pad, “Jackson needs 20 hours of ABA Therapy a week.” We could really save a lot of time, money, heartache and family hardship if we rethink how we diagnose and treat Autism.
